We’ve listed answers to the most common questions related to Gimkit accounts. Still stuck? Reach out, and we’ll do our best to help!
Does It Cost Anything to Open a Gimkit Account?
No, there’s no cost to sign up for Gimkit. Creating a profile is entirely free. You’ll be placed on Gimkit Basic, which doesn’t charge you anything.
With Gimkit Basic, you can enjoy free game modes with no restrictions. You can make as many kits as you want. There are no limits on how many you can have.
What Are the Account Choices on Gimkit?
Gimkit offers just two profile types:
| Type | Best For |
|---|---|
| Educator | Running and building games |
| Student | Joining and playing in games |
You pick your account kind when signing up.
Student profiles include some built-in limits to help keep things safe. These are made mainly for playing games. Educator profiles allow you to organize, host, and build games. You can also upgrade to unlock more features.
It's worth noting that these safety measures help prevent issues like unauthorized Gimkit bot flooder activities that could disrupt classroom learning environments.
What Extras Come With the Educator Upgrade?
Educator profiles work fine without paying. But if you choose to upgrade to Gimkit Pro, you unlock a few extra tools:
- Access to Pro-only game styles
- Create and assign homework
- Add voice-based questions
- Upload images into your kits
All games automatically use Gimkit's Smart Repetition system to help students learn more effectively by focusing on questions they missed.
Can I Use Pro Without Paying at First?
Yes! When you first open an Educator account, you’ll start with a 14-day Pro free trial. You can try everything Pro offers during that time. Your account switches back to Basic when the trial ends unless you decide to pay.
Do Students Need a Gimkit Profile?
Not always. Your students can play games and work on assignments even if they don’t log in.
However, they must sign up if they want to use classes or let them earn points (XP) and buy virtual items. If students experience technical difficulties with 2D game modes, check our guide on WebGL issues for troubleshooting steps.
How Can I See What Data Gimkit Has Collected?
To review your saved data:
- Head to the “Me” menu and select Settings
- Or visit: gimkit.com/settings
- Scroll all the way down
- Open the Support tab by clicking the arrow
- Click Information Gimkit has collected on me
You’ll then see all personal data tied to your account. You can also learn about what Gimkit gathers and why in their privacy rules.
Steps to Change Your Password
If you’ve forgotten your password or want to update it:
- Go to gimkit.com/login
- Type in your email and select Forgot password?
- A message will be sent with a reset link
Follow that link to change your password.
Why Are Emails From Gimkit Missing?
If you haven’t received essential emails like password reset links:
- Your school may block Gimkit’s messages
- They could be placed in spam or junk folders
Make sure both gimkit.com and stripe.com are marked as allowed senders. Ask your school’s IT team to assist if needed.
Why Is There a Fee for Gimkit Pro?
Gimkit Pro has a price so the platform can be maintained, developed, and supported.
Unlike others, Gimkit does not run ads or take investor money. This means they rely entirely on support from users.
The free version, Gimkit Basic, is still packed with valuable tools:
- Run live games
- Make class groups
- Access game data
All new Educator users get a 14-day Pro trial when they join.
