Gimkit Cosmetics is a feature designed to keep players engaged while providing rewards for their progress in the game. The cosmetics system operates through experience points (XP), leveling up, and the use of GimBucks to purchase in-game cosmetic items. These items, including characters and accessories, don’t offer any competitive advantage but instead enhance the player’s experience with unique visual elements.

How to Earn XP in Gimkit

XP, or experience points, is the core of the cosmetics system. Players earn XP by participating in 2D game modes, where actions like answering questions correctly contribute to leveling up. As you accumulate XP, you rise through levels, unlocking rewards.

    • Leveling Up: Each level requires 1,000 XP to achieve.
    • XP Limit: Players are capped at earning 15,000 XP per week, which equates to 15 levels. This system is designed to keep students from overplaying and ensures they are engaged without excessive time spent in the game.
    • XP Reset: Your XP progress resets every Tuesday at 7 pm EST, maintaining a consistent experience.

What Are GimBucks?

GimBucks are the currency used to purchase cosmetic items within Gimkit. To earn GimBucks, you need to level up by gaining XP in game modes. Each level-up earns you 100 GimBucks, which can be spent on various cosmetic items in the Item Shop.

    • GimBucks Roll Over: If you don't use all your GimBucks in one week, they are saved for the next. There’s no rush to spend them immediately.
    • Viewing GimBucks: You can check your current GimBucks balance anytime by clicking on the Cosmetics section from your dashboard or the upper-right corner of the game screen.

The Item Shop and Cosmetics Items

The Item Shop is where players can spend their hard-earned GimBucks. The shop offers a rotating selection of cosmetic items such as special characters, trails, stickers, and Gims. These items enhance your gameplay experience by providing new visual styles and personalization options.

    • Item Rotation: The shop updates weekly, meaning new items might be available each week, but not all items are guaranteed to change every time.
    • Cosmetic Items: These items do not affect the gameplay itself. They are purely for visual appeal and customization, so no player gains an advantage by purchasing them.
    • Locker: After purchasing cosmetics, you can view and equip them from your Locker anytime.

Stickers and Their Use

Stickers are a unique type of cosmetic item available in Gimkit. These stickers can be used in 2D game modes to decorate your lobby before a game starts. They are available for purchase in the Item Shop and are rotated in and out weekly, similar to Gims.

    • Sticker Limits: You can place up to 10 stickers in the lobby. If you try to add an 11th sticker, the first one will disappear to make room for the new one.
    • Sticker Application: To use a sticker, click the "Apply Stickers" button in the top-left corner of the screen during the lobby phase. Here, you can select your desired sticker, adjust its size, and place it where you like.

Managing Cosmetic Settings

Cosmetics are available to both students and educators in Gimkit. However, if you prefer not to use or allow cosmetics in your games, you can disable them in the settings.

    • Disabling Cosmetics: Go to the "Settings" section and click "Game Settings." From there, you can turn off all cosmetic items such as Gims, trails, and stickers.
    • Impact of Disabling: Even with cosmetics turned off, players can still earn XP. However, the cosmetic rewards, including Gims and stickers, won’t be available in-game.

Weekly Reset and Limits

To maintain balance and avoid excessive playtime, Gimkit has several weekly limits in place. You can level up only 15 times weekly, with the reset occurring every Wednesday at 2 pm EST.

    • Level Limit: Players can gain up to 15,000 XP each week.
    • Weekly Reset: All XP, levels, and cosmetics-related features reset on Wednesday afternoons, ensuring a fresh start each week.
